What is Baby Swimming?
Baby swimming is an activity that is carried
out in classes. Each class takes place once a week for
half an hour, and is based on many songs, games, warmth and
hugs. Each class consists of up to 6 babies in the same age
group. Each baby participates according to capacity and will.
the activity is held in warm water and relaxed atmosphere, that
remind the baby of the womb environment where he group up. The
embryo is used to the fluid environment of the womb, to move in
it, turn around and show off. In the amniotic fluid he does not
breathe, but rather receives Oxygen from his mother. to
prevent liquid from entering his respiratory system, the embryo
has a reflex known as The Dive Reflex. The baby
is born with this reflex, which gradually disappears up to the
age of six months. In the class we use this reflex to teach how
to dive. We rely on it to create a conditioning for the baby,
between a stimulus to breath holding. Thus we replace the
reflexive breath holding by an intentional action of the baby.
We teach older babies how to dive by using the conditioning
itself. Each activity matches the child's age and pace
of development. The water are heated up to 34 Celsius, and are
very cozy. The water temperature is adjusted especially for the
little babies, who lack the ability to modulate their body
temperature: even when they are cold they don't show signs like
trembling or blue lips.
For whom is Baby Swimming?
This activity is for you - parents and child, and it will grant
you an enjoyable and experiential quality time
with your child.
But the activity of babies swimming offers other qualities
beyond enjoyment; such are parent - child bonding, self
confidence, independence, improving posture, strengthening the
muscles, orientation in space, first social encounter with
children of the same age and more. Baby swimming classes are for
infants of 3 months and up. In his first three
months the baby undergoes a number of vaccines, which reduce the
risk of sickness. In addition to babies with normal development,
Activities in the water may help substantially in cases of Hypotonia, Hypertonia, weakness
in the shoulders, short neck muscle, and other minor motorical
conditions. Sometimes aquatic activity may replace the need for
physical therapy, through games and pleasure.
How does a baby swimming lesson go?
When you will arrive to the class meeting I will welcome you,
introduce myself and invite you to enter the water. In the first
lesson we will learn to know each other, and to see how your
baby responds to the water. Each infant has an individual pace
of adjustment: to the water, environment, sounds, other
participants and to me. In our first meething I will tell you
about the procedures in our class, such as dealing with vaccine,
sickness etc. Then we will start the lesson with the opening
song, and will continue with personal and group activities under
my guidance. Every activity stimulates a number
of senses, and incorporates various toys and accessories. At the
end of the class we will sing the closure song, and I will say
good bye to each baby and parent personnaly. It means a lot to
me to get to know you personally, and to relate to each one by
name, not just as "parent of ...".
As a mother of four and former nursing mother, you will find
with me a sympathetic ear, a shoulder and advice beyond the proper
aims of the class.
